Volkswagen de  Mexico is set to invest another $118m to start the second stage of it's engine plant located at Silao, Guanajuato.

The latest investment will be used for the production of new components in the new version of the EA888 turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engine.

With this funding, the company will be able to produce a new variable camshaft system that improves the performance of the engine and reduces CO2 emissions.

With this expansion, the German automaker will create 150 jobs in the region and will employ new processes for the manufacture of camshaft components, such as complex state-of-the-art technology like electro-chemical and laser surface structuring.

The construction will start immediately and will continue during 2014. They will expand the 120,00m² of buildings already constructed by an additional 37,000m², install machinery and setup in January 2015 with plans to begin the production of the new engine in the first quarter of 2016.
