Productivity to be measured in key economic sectors

The Mexican Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Secretaria del Trabajo y Prevision Social (STPS), and the Mexican Statistics Agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI), will work together with other government agencies to report global labor productivity of key sectors of the Mexican economy, standing out construction, manufacturing industry, wholesale trade and retail sales.

The Mexican Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Secretaria del Trabajo y Prevision Social (STPS), and the Mexican Statistics Agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI), will work together with other government agencies to report global labor productivity of key sectors of the Mexican economy, standing out construction, manufacturing industry, wholesale trade and retail sales.

In a joint press release, STPS and INEGI pointed-out: “The publication contains the results of labor productivity indexes for both global economy and primary, secondary and tertiary activities.

In addition, labor productivity, labor unit cost and actual mean compensation are included for some economic sectors, such as construction companies, manufacturing establishments and commercial stores; these figures are calculated with existing data on production, sales, employment, hours worked and compensations”.

According to analysts, the report will be useful to know labor force’s contribution in the development of economy based on productivity, “the main purpose of this effort is having information on productivity trend in other sectors, since data on manufacturing were already being disclosed”.
