Mexico exported 37,400 automobiles to China with a value of US$792 million between January and October 2012, which represented year-to-year increases of 19.6% in value and 28.2% in volume.

China therefore displaced Argentina as the fifth destination for automobiles exported by Mexico, only after the United States, Germany, Brazil and Canada.

Sales of Mexican assemblers to the Chinese market were doubled in value and almost tripled in volume when compared to average exports to the whole world in even term, namely 1 million 566 thousand units (10.5%) and US$23.979 billion (9.1%), according to data from Banco de Mexico.

The Mexican Automotive Industry Association said that a factor to be assessed is countervailing duties for up to 22% charged by China on the imports of certain vehicles from the United States since December 2011.
