Harald Hauke, Vice-president, Mercedes-Benz Coaches, explained that the investment is part of the company’s 2012-2014 plan, and that it is being made mainly due to high demand from intercity passenger sector, a market estimated in around 1,500 vehicles for this year.
To start, Mercedes-Benz already has an order from Transpais for 90 coaches of these new models, of which 40 are double-deck. With this expansion, the plant will go from assembling 15 buses per day to 18 or 20 in the second half of the year, according to Victor Segura, Production Manager.
