An often repeated proverb recently came to mind after reviewing Mercer's Global Talent Trends Study for 2018. It goes… "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
We looked at a snapshot of 3 categories from the Mercer Study (relevant to trends in organizational talent) and compared the results for Canada, the US and Mexico. With some minor exceptions, we found talent trends in the three countries to be closely aligned.
Despite significant cultural and linguistic differences between the three countries, it suggests that our business and organizational culture is perhaps more similar than it is different. Perhaps its additional evidence suggesting North America possesses greater collective strength as a competitive center of business, R&D, innovation, and manufacturing to the remainder of the world? In an era where protectionism is on the rise, perhaps we need to look more closely at our combined strengths versus our differences? Take a look at some of the talent trends similarities in North America:

And while I'm not implying that we need to get the 580 million people of North America to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, perhaps we do need to celebrate and promote that which we share a bit more than that which divides us.
