Taiwan Government affirmed they will promote investments to establish plants in Mexico that export textiles and other products to the United States.

Taiwan Government affirmed they will promote investments to establish plants in Mexico that export textiles and other products to the United States.

This would put Taiwanese producers in a better position to compete with their counterparts from South Korea, who enjoy advantages from the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States, which allows exporting with low or zero tariffs.

In 2012, Taiwan exported impregnated, lined or stratified fabric to the US market for US$85 million, an 8.3% year-to-year increase. Mexico, the third supplier of such fabrics to the US market, made exports for US$249 million, a 4.7% year-to-year increase, according to data from the US Department of Commerce.
