Assuring that the maquiladora industry makes an important economic contribution to the State of Baja California, Jose Luis Fletes Torres, Chairman of the Maquiladoras Association, pointed-out that investments made are estimated in around US$3.3 billion.

This important figure, Mr. Fletes pointed-out, includes constructions, expansions, refurbishing and the purchase of chattel, supplies and technology, among others.

He further pointed-out that the contribution made by the maquiladora sector in the city amounts to around one hundred million dollars per month.

Fletes Torres said that there are currently 122 companies installed here, which generate around 53,000 direct jobs and over 100,000 indirect jobs. He also considers that businessmen in this sector enjoy greater safety in Baja California, which encourages them to stay here and bring new projects.

He informed that they recently held a meeting with the State’s Attorney, Rommel Moreno Majarrez, who showed them figures on the fight against the main felonies, which turned out to be very positive, since most felonies, mainly stolen vehicles, are dropping.
