Production and export of the mexican automotive industry rises 5%

The automotive industry started the year with good figures, since automobiles production grew 6.5% and exports went up 8.6%, while domestic sales posted 1.6% increase in the first quarter, compared to even term last year, the Mexican Association of Automotive Industry, Asociacion Mexicana de Industria Automotriz (AMIA), informed.

The automotive industry started the year with good figures, since automobiles production grew 6.5% and exports went up 8.6%, while domestic sales posted 1.6% increase in the first quarter, compared to even term last year, the Mexican Association of Automotive Industry, Asociacion Mexicana de Industria Automotriz (AMIA), informed.

The results were even better in March, since production jumped 16.3%, exports 12.9% and domestic sales 3.5%, AMIA added in a press release. According to AMIA, production in March, namely 227,314 units, is “the highest ever in a month of March”. The total number of vehicles produced in the first quarter is close to 775,000 units, of which 83.3% were shipped abroad and the rest was sold in the domestic market. Data on exports, with more than 600,00 units for January-March term, show a significant increase for North America (16.6%) and the Asian countries (7.4%), while in Latin America there is a slight 1.8% increase.

As far as domestic sales are concerned, AMIA valued positively the steady growth in these three months.
