Nissan inaugurated their second Level 3 quick electric charge station in Mexico, third in Latin America, adjoining the Science and Technology Interactive Museum (Museo Descubre) in Aguascalientes. The station will start operating immediately to charge Nissan LEAF vehicles in Aguascalientes, the company informed.

Nissan explained that Museo Descubre is symbol of innovation and leading technology and therefore locating the station in these premises “represents Nissan’s next step towards global leadership in 0-emission, because there are already two programs operating in Mexico, namely in Mexico City and Aguascalientes”.

Electric vehicles travelling several highways in Aguascalientes may now recharge their batteries to 80% capacity in this high technology station (Level 3), within 30 minutes. This station complements the State Government’s electric vehicles recharge center, the biggest in Latin America, consisting of 50 recharge stations (Level 2) that give service to Nissan LEAF vehicles currently operating as taxis.

In addition, there are four public chargers in Aguascalientes, with capacity to charge two automobiles at the same time.

Nissan launched their first pilot program for electric vehicles in Mexico City in 2011, followed by the implementation of a public mobility program in Aguascalientes in 2012. Nowadays, there are more than 75 Nissan LEAF vehicles in Mexico City and Aguascalientes.

Nissan has sold more than 50,000 electric vehicles in the last two years at several countries, opening more than 1,000 recharge stations around the world. In Mexico, there are currently three recharge stations located in Nissan dealerships: Nissan San Cosme, Nissan Soni Insurgentes and Nissan VAMSA Aguascalientes. Renault-Nissan Alliance is planning to sell 1.6 million electric vehicles by 2016.
