In 2013, Mexico ranked twelfth in receiving Foreign Direct Investment in the world, having received the amount of US$38 billion, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In 2012, Mexico ranked 19th, with US$17.4 billion, and was close to leaving the list of the 20 countries with the largest investment flows received, according to the document “Global Investments Trends Monitor”, in its first issue this year. This 118% increase is mainly due to the sale of Grupo Modelo to a Belgian company, posting a single transaction that amounted to US$18 billion.
