If Mexico keeps on gaining market share in the United States, as done to date with exports, it will become the US main trade partner, leaving China behind, the Bank HSBC estimates in their global study Trade Forecast.

HSBC also considers that Mexico’s top five trade partners by 2030 will be the United States, Canada, China, Brazil and India.

“Mexico will undoubtedly keep on integrating mainly the North America free trade area in the next two decades. However, the importance of trade partners such as China and India will definitely grow”, Mauricio Muñoz Leon, Head of International Trade Department with HSBC Mexico, said.

Mr. Muñoz pointed-out that since 2009 Mexico is the only US trade partner that has been systematically increasing its share of the market there.

HSBC estimated that Mexico’s trade with the USA will grow at an average rate of 7% or 8% per annum in the next five years, while they forecasted the trade stream to Asia will post 2-digit increase in the next decade.
