Mexico ranks first in investments on aeronautics manufacturing in the world, making this sector the most interesting to invest in Mexico, according to researcher Monica Casalet; therefore, the need to keep on drafting public policies that foster growth of the sector’s clusters with domestic suppliers.

Ms. Casalet informed that between 2006 and 2012 the number of companies in the sector was more than doubled, going from 109 to 249 companies and support organizations, located at 18 states in Mexico, which generate more than 31,000 jobs.

She further pointed-out that in 2009 Mexico ranked ninth among suppliers of aeronautics products to the United States, before China, Korea, Australia and Spain, according to figures from the US Department of Commerce.

She added that to avoid being left behind by other countries, impulse should be given to Mexican small and medium companies, since such industry is among the most expensive. “It is an industry completely controlled by high production costs, and selective policies are required to enhance the development of SMC’s”, she said.

The need for clusters arises from public policies, and they should include small and medium size companies, she further said, and added that aerospace industry generates thousands of jobs and US$5 billion in exports from Mexico every year, and the figure is expected to reach US$7.5 billion by 2015.
