Mexico climbed 5 positions, from 37th to 32nd, in IMD’s 2013 Global Competitiveness Ranking, where 59 economies were analyzed.

Mexico climbed over 2012 in two out of the four large factors analyzed by the Switzerland-based organization: Government Efficiency, from 35th to 29th and Business Efficiency from 42nd to 33rd.

Economic Performance remained in the 14th position –staying as Mexico’s best big factor- and in Infrastructure it dropped from 48th to 49th.

Mexico therefore was in the select group of nine economies that climbed 5+ positions.

However, Mexico was slightly below the mean in general competitiveness.

“In Latin America, Mexico has seen its competitiveness improve slightly, and it will need to confirm it throughout time, by implementing structural reforms”, IMD stated in their press release on the report.
