Maquila grows 11% for 5-year record

Processing Industry generated 21,129 jobs in 2012, to reach 11% growth according to data from Maquiladoras Association, Asociacion de Maquiladoras Asociacion Civil (AMAC-Index Juarez), taken from the Mexican Social Security Institute, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) database.

According to data provided by IMSS, upon ending 2011 there were 192,349 jobs in Ciudad Juarez registered under Processing Industry; upon ending 2012 the number had climbed to 213,478, which means an increase of 21,129 workers.

According to AMAC's records, based on IMSS's traditional measuring method, this is the largest growth since 2007, when this kind of record keeping started.

In that year Processing Industry, which includes maquiladoras and domestic industry barely grew 1,117 jobs.
