The Maquilador Sector closed 2012 with important results, especially because the number of jobs created by this industry throughout Mexico went up 10%, which means two million 240 thousand people are working there, Luis Aguirre Ang, the Sector’s leader, assured.

Mr. Aguirre Lang, Chairman of the National Council of Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry, further said that 2012 was in general a good year for this production sector and that for 2013 they have significant challenges to keep their growth.

He pointed-out that even if they closed 2012 with 12% increase in exports, for 2013 one of the main challenges is diversifying the sale of goods abroad, mainly with support of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

He said that based on growth forecasts of our main trade partner, the United States, which Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expected growth is 2.3%, a 5% to 6% growth in exports is forecasted.

He acknowledged that the growth expected for 2013 is lower than in 2012, but he considers it good; in addition, they will keep on working on Trans-Pacific Partnership to see the possibility to increase exports to emerging countries.
