Industry contributed with 94% of new jobs

It is the Processing Sector that has propped up employment in Chihuahua this year, by growing 11% and generating 94% of new jobs. Data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) show that between January and November 2012, 21,820 jobs were generated at the city, going from 313,994 to 335,814.

Data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) show that between January and November 2012, 21,820 jobs were generated at the city, going from 313,994 to 335,814.

From those 21,820 jobs –a figure not seen for a similar term in 7 years–, 20,534, i.e. 94%, were generated by the Processing Sector, which includes maquiladoras and domestic industry.

These data from IMSS show that the 20,534 jobs generated by Processing Industry, equal 11% growth over the 186,882 jobs last December.

Jose Luis Armendariz Bailon, Chairman of Maquiladoras Association – a sector that reported more than 23,000 jobs this year – said that maquiladora industry is in full growth and will remain so early in 2013.
