Industrial rebound provides impulse to suppliers

During the almost four years of crisis, invoicing by maquiladora suppliers dropped between 30% and 40%, but a recent industrial boom has been providing for a rebound in products demand, businessmen from the sector informed.

During the almost four years of crisis, invoicing by maquiladora suppliers dropped between 30% and 40%, but a recent industrial boom has been providing for a rebound in products demand, businessmen from the sector informed.

The improvement has not taken invoicing to 2008 levels yet, but many suppliers have started hiring more personnel due to demand for their products.

Businessmen interviewed during MRO Expo, a tradeshow for maquiladora industry supplies, said that the local chain of supply hit rock bottom last year but this year sales have been growing.

According to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), processing industry gained 17,054 jobs between January and September this year.

This is the largest figure for jobs generated by this industry within a similar term since 2004, when 18,000 jobs were created.
