General Motors will celebrate 80 years in Mexico with the arrival of its first electric vehicle to the domestic market: the Chevrolet Spark EV, which will cost US$34,500.

This vehicle is able to travel up to 132 miles on a single charge. Its battery takes only seven hours to get fully charged. This car cuts up to 70% off gasoline expenses if the owner has industrial electricity tariffs, and up to 30% when the tariff is domestic.

The company is not considering currently to produce this vehicle in Mexico, said David Rojas, GM’s Engineering Director.

But after testing 50 pilot units of Chevrolet Volt, the Spark EV was found to suit the needs of Mexican users, particularly those who do not travel more than 80 miles a day in their daily routine.
