Chihuahua is leader in automotive investment

Alvaro Navarro Garate, State Minister of Economy, said that automotive sector in Mexico has received no less than US$18 billion in foreign direct investment in the last 10 years.

Mr. Navarro said that there are over 2,400 hectares available to host industrial development projects in Chihuahua, Juarez, Cuauhtemoc, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Hidalgo del Parral, Delicias, Camargo, Saucillo, Aldama, Janos, Ascencion and Ojinaga municipalities.

He further added that exports made by this industry account for 20% of total exports from the State of Chihuahua.

In November 2012, it reached US$8.414 billion, posting a 27% increase in the last year only.

Navarro Garate said that to take the next step for economic reactivation at the State, they are working hard this 2013 on the Private Investment-Academic Sector-Government triple helix, to provide not only the automotive industry but every sector with high value added.

He also said that Chihuahua is the most transcendental engineering and design center in Mexico; there are 5 engineering and design centers here, being Delphi Technical Center the biggest and most important in Mexico; it is located in Juarez and has over 2,000 engineers, generating the largest number of patents in the whole private sector.
