Considering the investment to be made in the automotive sector by the German company Audi, Foreign Direct Investment in the automotive field adds to US$3 billion during Enrique Peña Nieto's Administration, and US$2 billion more are expected from other automotive companies this year, Ildefondo Guajardo, Minister of Economy, confirmed.

Upon breaking ground for Audi’s factory here (the only hi-end vehicles plant in America), Minister Guajardo declined to make any announcements on future operations by automotive companies, and said: “Several investment are being considered, but no announcement can be made before they materialize; however, I can assure that investments in addition to those announced should amount US$2 billion this year”.

Audi Plant in Mexico will be the Group’s 13th in the world; it will be one of the most important, since Mexico has a strategic geographical location in the Americas, Rupert Stadler, Audi’s CEO, said after announcing that the initial investment for US$1.3 billion will lead to the generation of 19,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The German assembler will produce Q5 model in Mexico for the world, a winner unit in the premium segment, starting with 150,000 vehicles assembled every year as of 2016. Audi’s challenge is producing 300,000 units by 2020, of which 245,000 will be meant for the North American market (200,000 for USA, 30,000 for Canada and 15,000 for Mexico).
